Dear Will:

We need to talk. After approximately seven years of me listening to absolutely everything you have to say about anything, it’s time I said at least one sentence back. Let’s be honest. We hipsters don’t age well. I have this theory that hipster fan years actually equate to dog years, and that hipster performer years work retroactively — so theoretically speaking I am now officially old enough to be your mother. Grandmother maybe. Look, to be honest I haven’t actually done the math. I’m a very busy woman. I’ve got organic deodorant to think about making and men with interesting mustaches to make googily eyes at. But as indie rock’s self-proclaimed official den mother, I needed to express my concern.

Sometimes kids show up where you least expect them. Like at your job. No matter what one’s employment situation, a small child eventually shows up at the workplace, and suddenly you’re discovering parts of the office you never knew were edible.
This happens to me now and then. Inevitably this small child (for example, Kait, a visiting former co-worker’s delightful 4-year-old), will run around like a happy maniac, and I somehow end up entangled in fishing wire, all the while trying to answer three phones and restructure something that just malfunctioned in the database system.
